Ahar Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources

Ahar Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources was established as Ahar College of agriculture in Ahar City since 2006. This college started its activity with two fields of study in the associate degree: Animal Production Technology and Food Technology. With the valuable efforts of the Dean of college, it was upgraded to Ahar Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources since summer 2011. Right now, Ahar Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources with 17 faculty members conducts undergraduate courses in 4 fields of Animal Sciences, Food Science and Technology, Forest Sciences and Engineering and Horticultural Sciences and Engineering, as well as master's courses in Animal Sciences in five fields of Animal Nutrition, Poultry Nutrition, Animal breeding and genetics, Animal physiology and Apiculture (Beekeeping).

Ahar faculty of agriculture and natural resources as a one of the affiliated off-campus faculties of the University of Tabriz, is located at the historical city of Ahar, the main city of the Arasbaran region.

Arasbaran with 78560 ha protected area is one of the nine Iranian biosphere reserves under the UNESCOs Man and Biosphere (MAB) program. This area is characterized by special climate features, a high biodiversity and the presence of rare fauna and flora. It is the only habitat of one of rarest birds in the world called Lyrurus mlokosiewiczi.

The faculty is well-equipped with research facilities and laboratories and made up of four departments:

 

Faculty educational and research facilities and laboratories:

1- Specialized laboratories (equipped with new laboratory equipment such as GC-Mass, Spectrophotometer, Micro Kjeldahl , Flame Photometer, Advanced centrifuges, PCR, etc.)

2- Basic laboratory (Equipped with microscope and various microbial culture media)

3- Animal sciences training Core Facility (Dissection of livestock and poultry, incubation, Sperm Freezing, Qualitative evaluation of carcasses and meat, Quality evaluation of livestock and poultry feed materials, etc.)

4- Food science and technology Core Facility (canning, sugar technology, Dairy, meat and fisheries, Grain and dried fruit technology, etc.)

5- Horticultural Sciences Core Facility (Propagation of garden plants, seed technology, morphometry of plant organs, extraction of extracts and essential oils, etc.)

6- Forestry training Core Facility (Remote sensing and GIS, Herbarium, Identification of seedlings and seeds, etc.)

7- The library of Ahar Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources with 2000 printed copies of Persian books, 60 printed copies of latin books, 9 titles of Persian journals, 7 titles of  latin journals and dozens of dissertations done in the faculty.

8- The computer site: this part of the faculty with two sections of bachelor's and master's degrees were equipped with 60 computers, high-speed internet, member of the world's reputable scientific databases to access new articles and books.
